Polish And Wax
Polish And Wax
I know this has been covered time and time again, but is there a wax that won't leave white marks on trim? I saw it in one of these threads awhile back, but I just can't find it. O.K, I admit. I've never used a polish on my paint before. So what is a good polish to use? Sorry for all the questions, but my truck needs a detail job soon! TIA. :o
For a polish I use 3m's SMR. If you aren't going to use a buffer with this polish I would suggest Meguiars Swirl remover. It is easier to apply by hand.
Not sure about that wax that leaves no white residue. I think Blitz is pretty good about not leaving white marks. I just masking tape all my trim off. It to doesn't take too long after you have done it a few times.

I just finished using Klasse AIO and 3 coats of SG - looks great, and I actually applied all but the last 2 coats of SG to the plastic trim too. No white on the trim, great shine, and supposedly great long-lasting protection that should last until next fall.
YAY!!! another Klasse user!
Die Zaino people die!
Wait... I'm ordering some Zaino for my Highlander...
Klasse is good for the dark colors (Black, Red, Blue, etc)
Zaino is better for light colors (White, Silver)

Turtle Wax makes polishes (polymer) in color. I use the black on my black truck and my wife's black car. Not only does it not leave white residue, it brings back a richer black color on all the rubber that it gets on and is as good as anything else. Don't fall for marketing hype. All polymers are the same followed by any wax with a high carneuba content will give excellent shine. Even a quick spray type.

Hey 2002grey-ghost, I saw in your sig. that you went with the Motorcraft 5w-20 synthetic blend oil. Is that the NEW oil Motorcraft makes in the Orange/Red qts?If it is, is it a synthetic blend? When I got my truck in mid 2001, they didn't have this oil out yet. So I went with Valvoline Durablend Syn. blend 5w-30. I have no complaints about Valvoline DB, but it's a bit pricey compared to the Motorcraft 5W-20 that I found for $1.49 a qt. So what I'm gettin' at is, would it hurt anything to switch to the Motorcraft 5w-20? My Dad always told me to find a good oil and stay with it. Because it may make your engine smoke if you change around to much. So the question still stands, would it hurt anything to change to the Motorcraft? Sorry for the book, but I gotta know! And the colored wax! I didn't know anyone actually used that stuff!
Detailing Newbs... pufff

If you want wax that doesn't leave residue a synthetic wax is the way to go. There are a lot of choices though. Blackfire, Zaino, Klasse, and Meguiars #20.
Blackfire seems to look good on everything after a few coats. It makes a super slick surface that doesn't beed but sheets water. The only problem is the slickness seems to disappear after a few washes. It helps to seal blackfire in with a carnauba was after you let it cure for a few days.
Zaino is good on light colors. It gives a candycoated appearence. After you get to a point that adding anothery layer of Zaino doesn't make a difference you can top with a carnauba wax. It seems to help it become deeper and wetter looking while keeping a bright shine.
Klasse is good on dark colors. It actually seems to make the color darker with each coat. Some people top klasse with a carnauba. It does make it look slightly wetter. It is really up to you if you want to apply one.
I've never used the Meguiars polymer before and most people don't. I'm not sure if they have a consumer version of it but it is #20 in the professional line. Most people don't use it because you can't layer it. The bottle doesn't say it but I talked with a rep and they said that the polymer has a small amount of cleaner in it. Applying a second coat would just strip most of the first off.
2002gray-ghost, what meguiars products do you use? Have you tried their #20 polymer sealant out? I'd like to know more about it.
Wolverine" I answered your other post about the motorcraft oil...I'm going with the Motorcraft blend, also got it at Wal-Mart...
Intel...I use the Meguires 3 step system...cleaner/Wax/polish...a friend who actually worked in a Ford body shop turned me on to it....He used the #20 stuff but then moved away and I can't get it...they also have a "in between" spray and a carshow shine product that gives a really "wet" look as well.
I personally think all the "higher end" waxes/polishes are really good, no matter what one uses. I live on the end of the earth in Del Rio TX, ON the Mexico border so alot of what I use depends on availability, and I can always get Meguire products here. Zaino is sometimes in stock and I have never even seen the 3M stuff.
Happy Presidents Day!

So you use the consumer products.
Where do you get your supplies at? I would ask them. They can probably order it for you. I think any body shop or paint shop should be able to get you meguiars #20.
You know you can mail order Zaino?
You should probably get something like Zaino or Klasse for the hot TX sun. They both have UV protectants in them.

No I did NOT know I could mail order the Zaino.....where??
I had never heard of Klasse either, which one would you recommend? UV protection sounds really good to me...
thanks!

hmm Klasse or Zaino.
What color is you truck?
Light colors (white, silver) use Zaino
Dark colors (Black, Red) use Klasse.
Klasse is harder to apply though and you should probably use a carnauba topper with it.
