Cleaning Bed Cap Windows

Anyone have a good way to clean the windows between the cab and cap? I have a slider on the truck but the cap has a solid window. On my last truck I could loosen the clamps on the cap and move it back on the rails to get to the windows. I don't think I can do that with this cap because the sides of the cap are molded down over the sides of the rail. It's done so you can't see the plastic rail caps. I don't want to take the chance of breaking the fiberglass on the cap.

I had a cap that was like the one you're describing, but the molding didn't go over the rail behind the cab, only the sides and the tailgate, so I could loosen the clamps a bit and slide the cap a few inches. Does yours go over the rail behind the cab? Because there's not a whole lot of space to fit much between the bed and cab.

byw, who makes your cap, becuase unless it's a no-name, those caps are pretty strong; the chances of busting the fiberglass are pretty slim if you're careful.

I could slide the cap back on my last truck too. This cap is made by Fibrobec. It's out of Quebec. I bought the truck used and it had the cap on. I found out the truck was a leased truck in Canada. It's a beautful cap and solid. I like the way the sides wrap down enough to cover the rail caps. My truck is Harvest gold and there is no black strip along the side between the bed and the cap. I just don't want to take a chance of breaking the fiberglass along that edge. What I might try is unclamping it and lifting it enough to put a 2x4 on the rail and sliding it back on that.

Sound like a good idea, I did that also when I wanted to take it off for a short time, like carrying something tall.

What I did was put ropes from hooks on the ceiling of my garage, and used those rope clamp things (forgot what they're called) to keep it at the right length. I drilled a hole in the 2 8 ft. 2X4's on the ends and fed the rope through, then tied a big knot.

So what I would do was back into the garage, carefully push the 2X4's under the cap (after taking off the clamps) then put the ropes on the hooks on the ceiling, and tighten them up a shade so that the cap would leave the bedrails by a tiny bit. Then, I would drive out slowly and the cap was off without a scratch. The only warning is make sure the thing doesn't swing back'n'forth as you drive out of the garage (you can probably figure out why.)

Let me know what you end up doing and how it works out for ya.

I usually wrap a bunch of paper towels around a long thin plastic rod, spray the paper well and shove it in and wipe from the sides, and again once inside the truck with the sliders open; finish up any spots. Works pretty well, no having to take off cap.

Thanks. I tried something similar. I wasn't really happy with the results. What do you spray the towels with?

I finally got to cleaning the windows today. I had to raise the cap 2" so the edges would clear the bed rails. I took the clamps off and lifted the cap while my wife put 2x4s on the rails. That wasn't high enough for the sides of the cap to clear the rails so I used some scraps to lift it some more. It slid back easily. I had to cut the wires for the dome light and the brake light. Nothing a few PosiLock connectors couldn't take care of. I finally have clean windows and a coat of Rain-X on them.
