rust protection

I'm about to pick up my new f150, and I know they're going to try to up sell things like rust and paint protection. How do these compare to their competition?

the only rust protection that works is having a winter beater. The rest slows the process, but doesn't prevent it. The inner fenders will still hold salt and rust out in 8+ yrs.

Any of the stuff a dealer (any dealer) tries to sell you is a total waste of money. And don't even get me started on the farce they call "electronic rust protection." The only thing even close to being worth it is Zeibart and unfortunately, that comes down to who does the job. I've seen it very well done and very poorly done - from the same shop. Besides, actually needing it comes down to how long you plan on owning your truck. If you keep it 5-6 years or less, I would (and don't) do anything other than regular washing and waxing.

If ya don't mind doing things yourself, I would go with a good paint sealer like Zaino Z2 or Duragloss 105. I used about 10 cans of 3M professional undercoat on my, Michigan driven, 2003 F150 and the undercaaiage looked fantastic when I sold it many years later. I sprayed a very thin layer of undercoat and touched it up each spring. I had an Explorer undercoated at Ziebart one time and they put it on so thick it did more harm then good!!!!

Since you live in Canada go to your nearest Krown dealer. The guy from Texas who responded is well, from Texas, not sure if he really knows what it's like to live in Thunder Bay (no offence to the Texan). How long you been in Tbay? I used to work up the black sturgeon logging road, beautiful part of the province.

Family has been using Krown for over 20 years on various vehicles with excellent results. It won't make your vehicle last for 50 yrs but I'd bet if you Krown it yearly or every other year, line'x the inner fenders/box and in the winter spray the undercarriage off once per week you'll not experience any perforation for a heckuva long time.

Some of the yellow wax rust proofing the dealer provides is actually good stuff, it seems expensive because it's sort of a one time payment. However you should Krown over top of the thick yellow wax after a few years so that it stays moist and does not crack and allow moisture to creep in.

Do a search I've posted many times on f150online regarding krown, oilguard etc.
