Cleaning recommendations for wheels

I have the ATX Justice wheels on my truck and I get a ton of brake dust on the front wheels. I have been using soap and water to clean them but now its getting tougher to get them really clean. I also have overspray from the tire shine that has almost stained the wheels, even some good elbow grease won't get it out. Any cleaning products recommended? They are machined so I'm not sure what is safe to use on them.

What type of wheels are they?
Aluminium, chrome, mags etc.?

Eagle One has some good products that work.
Spray, wait 2 minutes and use a wheel brush.
Be sure to completely rinse and dry after use.
Use this when they are stubborn & nasty etc.

Then use Meguiars Hot Rims Brake Dust Barrier.
This will keep 'em clean from brake dust build up.
Use on painted, polished aluminum and chrome.

Both are available at your local auto-parts store.

I would refrain from simple green, that stuff is corrosive. I like Sonax all wheel cleaner. It's non acidic and does a great job. Also, be careful what you use on your tires. I stopped using Whestley's. I use a diluted mixture I make from Optimum Power clean. Has enough power to get off the grime without damaging wheels and what not. Then I wash it all with soap and water after.

Mine are black and machined, not as machined as yours are though.

1. 90 percent of the time I use just soap and water.
2. When dirty I use Griots garage all wheel cleaner or Sonax, both are non-acidic and Ph balanced.
3.Then 3 coats of Poorboys world all wheel Sealant every 3 months.
4. 2 coats of DP tire gel on the tires, it's water based, has no solvents or petroleum distillates and resists sling-off so it won't stain or damage your wheels and it lasts for couple months.

This combination works great for me. My wheels and tires look brand new.

The first thing you should make sure of is that the wheels are not hot.

There's no problem using Westley's or Simple Green as long as you use it correctly. I've been using both for years and have no issues with any of the wheels I've cleaned. Just make sure you rinse everything very well, don't let it sit on the wheels.

No need to buy expensive products that can only be ordered online.

Yes!!!!

if that isn't strong enough for the 1st cleaning, try a 50//50 mix of denatured alcohol & water.

Agreed

Adam's Green Wheel Cleaner

or SONAX

I'd just use a good All Purpose Cleaner on the wheels. The brake dust sticks real well to all the tire dressings with a lot of silcone in them too BTW. I live Adam's SVRT

As you can see I use mainly all Adam's Products

I used the Sonax and it worked great to clean the wheels but the front wheel still have a dull look to them from the break dust. Is there anything that can "shine" machined wheels?

What wheels are they? If they are factory wheels than more than likely they have a clearcoat on them. If so than you'll want to use products "meant" for paint. It's possible that polishing them will brighten them up.

Another vote for Optimum Power Clean. Completely safe on any type of wheel and won't do any harm if you get it on the paint.
