What pads, what else?

This is on my buy list...anything else I need to add? I already have 2 buckets and a foam gun.

Grit Guard 2-pack
Optimum Car Wash
Megs All Purpose Plus
Megs Bottles 6-pack
(2) Nozzle 3-pack
Megs Hyperdressing
Megs #21 Sealant 2.0
Megs DA Correction Compound
Megs Last Touch Detail Spray
Megs Detail Clay Mild
SuperFly Towels (12+)

I am getting a Griots Garage Orbital for Christmas. It comes with its own backing plate. What pads should I get?

Lake Country pads here too. Orange, White and light Green. Although, next time I think I'll give the Megs Microfiber pads a try.

Yeah, I was thinking about the Meg's MF pads with the new DA correction compound. Never had a DA before, do I need a special backing plate to use the Meg's pads with my GG orbital?

My understanding is using their (Meguiars) backing plate is recommended. If you use others backing plate you run the risk of overheating and delaminating the pad. I have no experience w/them so just what I've read.

I don't believe you should use the Megs MF DA system with an orbital.

An orbital is not a DA.

The Griots Garage 6" is a Dual Action (DA) polisher.

There are two basic types of polishers.
DA (sometimes referred to a orbital) and Rotary.
I have a GG 6", PC7424xp and a Flex PE14

I see a few items that really don't seem to go together on your list???

First I would suggest getting a 5" backing plate to use rather than the 6" plate that comes with ti.

*** Start small ***

To use the Megs Microfiber you need three items min.

Meguiars D30016 DA Microfiber Correction Compound 16 oz.
Meguiars DMC5 DA Microfiber Cutting Discs, 5 inches (2 pack)
Meguiars Mirror Glaze W67DA G110 DA Polisher 5 inch Backing Plate
or
The entire 5" MF Kit for $90 (comes with 5" backing plate included)
Meguiars DMCKIT5 DA Microfiber Correction System 5 Inch Starter Kit

Now that you have a 5" backing plate you can order polish and foam pads.

I'd suggest

Polish
Meguiars Mirror Glaze #105 Ultra-Cut Compound 8 oz. New D.A. Version
Meguiars Mirror Glaze #205 Ultra Finishing Polish 8 oz

Pads
For a newbie I'd suggest (most important colors = Orange, White & Black)
Lake Country Constant Pressure Hi-Gloss 5.5 Inch Flat Pads
or
Lake Country 5 1/2 Inch Flat Pads 6 Pack
2-Orange, 2-White, 1-Black, 1-blue

For clay I prefer Clay Magic Blue (mild) or Red (medium)

The list above is Pads, and polish products to get you started.

2 Grit Guards are good - 4 is better = 2 in each bucket.
A QUALITY wool wash mitt. I love my Wookies Fist!

Megs #21 is real good. I might suggest trying
BLACKFIRE Wet Diamond All Finish Paint Protection 16 oz.

You have MF towels on your list. You will LOVE you GG polisher!

Technically, no. A DA is "dual action" - it's an orbital where the head also rotates like a rotary, but a lot more slowly. A plain old orbital doesn't have much correction ability, it's really only good for applying wax on a finish that's already been corrected.

Dude. The GG is a dual action orbital. It will be fine with the Megs new DA system. I don't understand what your point is.

Technically, yes. You are correct. However, the DA is an orbital.

This is a "plain old (random) orbital"
Add a long stick and you can polish floors
