small rust spots

first off just bought 06 white f150, and didnt notice til i was washing it that on rear tailgate, it has small dots that look like a rust color, some come off, others seem to not, i was wondering if there is something i can try on it? the paint is not chipped so i find it hard to believe its rust but it looks like it? any ideas on what would have caused this to prevent in the future. Thanks

Could be rail dust, could be tar. Try some Stoners Tarminator. If that doesn't work, then clay bar should take care of you.

You should use a clay bar first, before compounding it. The use of compound will just grind whatever it is deeper into the finish.

Sounds like raildust is on your tailgate. My 04 was the same way when I got it about a year ago and a clay bar got it right out.

I was just reading into it on their website glc. Thanks for the info I never really knew the concept of how the claybar and polish works. Ive always washed and then polished. Maybe I will buy a kit and do a full paint detail

It's getting pretty dated, but the detailing sticky would be a good read for you to help understand the concept of proper clearcoat finish maintenance.

Wash
Clay
Correction
