Cut on sealing cover

Cut on sealing cover
By own stupidity I got a small (1 inch x 1/8 inch) cut on a sealing cover. The main concern now is if it would expand over time.
Could some one please tell me if it would expand over time and how I can prevent it from growing? Can I fix it?
