Unhappy Side Mirror Replacement quesiton

The driver side mirror on my 2000 ford f150 xlt broke and the mirror fell out of its space. I cant put the mirror back in to its place because the hooks broke that hold the mirror in its place. I cant see any screws or hooks that i can move to put a new mirror. Is there any way to get rid of whole mirror panel and put in those universal or sports mirrors. I don't see any screws or hooks so that very confusing on how to remove it.
thanks for your help..

You can remove it by taking off the door panel and getting at the screws behind it.

I've only seen a couple alternative mirror setups, neither i'm afraid do i have a URL for.

One was small and sporty, the other was like a mini Extendable mirror like on the superduties.
