Decal Question

I've been waiting all winter for some warm weather so I can FINALLY black out my emblems and replace my stock FX4 decal with a flat black one. My question is how should I treat the paint underneath the decal before applying a new one? I plan on doing a full exterior detail sometime soon as well, but I'm not sure how to handle replacing the decal. Any help is appreciated!!!

If it were me, I would make a water/alcohol solution to spray on. It will get rid of any oils, waxes, and dirt. After putting the decal on, reapply wax around it.

Sounds like a plan. Should I worry about protecting the paint under the decal?? Or will the decal serve as a protective barrier, similar to wax I guess??

If you are trying to get a decal to stick to the paint, you may not want to make said paint slicker.
