c/v axle care

What can I put on my c/v boots to help protect them and help keep them flexible? Also, what's the best thing to clean them with?

I'd have to *guess* a good water-based dressing such as Hyperdressing. I'd probably clean them with plain old soap and water.

I've used DOT 3 brake fluid, also silicone spray from Motorcraft, meant for prolonging rubber parts. Both work great, just coat them every so often, no need to soak as it will sling over especially the brakes I said that particular brake fluid as it uses silicone I believe, you can't use other types because they'll dry it out I think.

Do not use Brake Fluid, it can fling off and will eat paint off of anything.

That's why I say don't pour it on, just dampen a cloth and rub in as you turn. Can't remember, but some fluids eat paint or rubber maybe too and some won't. To be on the safe side, I use the silicone rubber spray though!
