End-of-Lease Surprise! Did it happen to you too?
I had an experience exactly oppositeto that.I also ended my lease on my 98 early and had a dent about the size of a baseball on the drivers side, bottom of the door and a dent in the tailgait from a trailer hookup gone bad (long story).Anyway the dealer considered both dents normal wear and tear on my truck. My lease was through Ford Motor Credit, maybe diff. finance companies have different standards of normal wear and tear. Funny thing is that the dealer sold the truck in two weeks w/o fixing the dents for more than it cost me brand new. Go figure.
A few years ago my wife and I leased a car.
While my wife drove through a parking lot someone backed into her and did a fair amount of damage. Thier insurance covered it.
When I called the lease co. just to let them know about it they said we HAD to turn over the payment to them because it was thier car. I said then how does the car get fixed?
He basicly told me that that was our problem.
So in other words when we turn in the car we get screwed for it even though it was paid for. I just told him ok and hung up and never sent it in. They never asked about it again.

They are trying to get some money out of you for the dent that they put in the truck. I haveleased 3 of my last trucks hrough ford red carpit lease program and when i turned in my 99 f150 for my 2001 ranger they told me that they go off a 2 hour per pannel what that means is that if they can't fix it in 2 hrs then they eill charge you for the repair go out and count the number of pannels on you truck at 2 hrs per pannel you could repaint the hole truck...

That's just Bank One. It's an awful financial institution. I've been bent over by them so many times on various accounts and processes and funds missing and then showing back up with no explaination after inquiring. Needless to say I no longer do any business with them what so ever. I've heard your story from about 3 other friends and acquaintances that have had "mystery dings" or other expenses show up on their vehicles after turning them in. I unfortunately work right next to the Bank One headquarters in downtown Columbus. (turning in chair to look out window to evil blue high rise next door and sticking out tongue) pbpbptbtbtbtbtbtb!!!!!!!!!!!!

Followup (I started this thread):
After many many many many telephone calls and myriad facsimile and mail message volleying with BankOne's collection agency, I found a helpful local branch manager who held off the dogs while the knots were being unraveled by BankOne's internal people and a dealership that went belly-up and didn't pay BankOne on my behalf at the end of the lease.
Despite my assurance and documentation that we had been 'even' for months, BankOne's tracking system and records were so screwed-up that they ultimately sent ME a $300 refund check -- for which that time I did not dispute.
----------------
More horror story:
My friend and I both bought (leased) trucks at the same time from the same dealer and financed by BankOne.
When he turned in his immaculate vehicle at the end of a 3-year lease with somewhere around 21,000 miles -- he later got a similar bill for $2,500 for some alleged damage.
He nearly had a heart-attack.
While the details are now months old and fuzzy to me -- He did ultimately get the claim dropped to around $500 which he ultimately paid just to make the problem go away!
Geraldo Revera or 20/20 -- where are you???
There's a big story here somewhere!

I work for Ford Credit, and our policy is to do up the end of lease 'condition report' with the leasing customer by our side, then they sign it, indicating agreement.
I'm sorry to hear about your troubles, maybe this is something you can suggest on the return of your current truck

I avoided the whole mess by selling my truck to CarMax at the end of the lease. My truck was imacculate, but I had exceeded the mileage allowance by almost 10k. It would have cost me almost $1500 if I returned it to the dealer I leased it from, plus any other stuff they could find to stick me for. Instead, I walked away about even. My dealer always tries to bone me on the trade, so I never trade my old trucks. The last two went to CarMax. They made very strong offers on both.

This is exactly why I would never lease. Its a scam if you ask me. Most people don't read the fine print until its too late, plus you are at the mercy of the lease company regardless if you turn your truck back in mint condition. They almost always find something wrong. With leases, the house almost always gets the better end of the deal. Some may disagree, but I prefer to own my truck...That way I can do whatever I please to the truck as far as mods and drive as many miles as I please..Plus I tend to keep my trucks at least 5-10 years anyway. To each their own though.
