battery acid
I spilled a little battery acid in the bed of my 98 F-150 I dilluted it with lots of water but it still ate through the paint. I sanded the area good and it still seems to be spredding. How do you get it to stop?

Neutralize the acid with baking soda, make a semi thick paste with the backing soda and water and spread it around the area that you spilled the battery acid. Use lots! If the paste foams and sizzles it is still interacting with the acid. keep spreading it around with something plastic. when it doesn't foam anymore rinse thoroughly with water.
I hate when that happens, I bought a battery for my wifes car and was carrying it in the back of a van I used to own. Battery must of fell over when I was rounding a corner and didnt discover it till I got home. Acid ate a hole 1.5' by 2' through carpet, backing and padding before I got it neutralized. Not to mention the holes it ate in my jeans.
Fun with chemicals.

Reminds me of a guy I knew in college. He had a Mustang (429 ci) that he used to run in the "outlaw" drags. He was working on the car one day and had to remove the battery. He put it back in and we all went to dinner. Part way thru dinner, the front of his shirt started to fall apart! Turns out the battery was leaking and he had carried it against his body. LOL.

Last summer i changed a battery on one of my waverunners. and i put it in the bed of my truck and forgot about it until 1 week later,Man that thing ruined my bed I need to get the whole thing repainted..

Ammonia will also neutralize the acid. I usually carry around a spray bottle for problems such as yours or when I have to clean off a battery.
It makes the job so much easier.
