Talking A simple and silly question.

I noticed that my left turn signal is going hokey. It clicks and flashes really fast. I am guessing my blinker controller is going. Here is the silly part. Does the blinker controller control both blinkers or just one? It only does this on left turns, I use the right one for the other left turns.

Thanks

Have you checked to see if one of your blinkers is burned out? That would make it blink fast.

Unless something has changed in the way that blinkers work -- a fast blinker means there is too MUCH current going thru it -- whereas a burnt out bulb would not draw enough current to make it blink.

Common causes for a quickie-blinkie include a botched tap-in for trailer lights.

"HD" blinkers are designed so that they are current in-sensitive -- so that it matters little how many bulbs are on the circuit -- which allows for an additional trailer bulb (each) but takes away from the bulb-out-no-blinkie feature.

Check to see if the bulbs on that side have two filiments in them. One of the two is burnt out. I had one in my car that appeared to be working, too fast though, and one bulb wire was burnt out. I hope its that easy.

Actually, it can cause a short when one of the filament burns out in a dual filament bulb... the broken filament can sometimes dangle against the other filament and cause it to blinky fast. It's possible, so start there. It's the elementary solution. Next, move to the flasher. HD flashers are just that... HD. They will blink a bit slower without a trailer, but will be normal with the extra load of a trailer. However, on most Fords with the Factory trailer towing package, there is already a trailer light converter that runs the trailer lights off an entirely separate circuit... prevents the rapid flash caused by the extra current through the flasher, and prevents shorting the vehicle's lighting if there's a short in the trailer's system. You can buy a special electronic flasher to replace the bi-metallic one, but like he said above... it flashes the same speed regardless of how many bulbs there are on the circuit (or how many there aren't!)

Ya,

I checked that after I checked the brake belts. You know, behind the Power Driver Seat spark plug.

Weeeeeee! This is getting silly.
