Post Paint Sealers

I need some advice on paint sealers. I have a new Ford F-150 Truck, it is bright red with a clearcoat finish. My neighborhood Ziebart dealer is trying to talk me into sealing the finish. He says they will put an intial coat on now and that i need to come in about once a year to reapply the paint sealant. Do I really need this? Will this proccess really make my truck shine for years? And he says the paint color will not fade if I get this done. Am I being had?

That's an awful lot of questions and it's been discussed very recently so do a search on paint sealers.
My personal opinion is they're not worth the money, a can of wax is $10 and you can do the truck about a dozen times or more, add to it the price of the occasional polish and it's $20 at the most. Of course I'm not adding the time spent doing the work yourself, what your time is worth differs from person to person.
I also believe that while the sealer may last longer it just won't look as good as recently waxed paint. There are polishes and waxes on the market that will give your paint depth and luster that no sealer can match.

Thumbs down

Had a sealant on black Toyota Supra. It needs to be prepped correctly to be long lasting, it required special cleaner/protectant,and it required special remover. It protected well but had a soft feel and cause major swirl marks compared to just traditional wax.

My aunt has the ziebart paint sealant applied everytime as she is too old to be out there waxing her car every month. It is kept in the garage and it always looks very nice. I've had good luck with ziebart in the past for other things (except for rustproofing overspray), but never tried the paint sealant.
