I got a 93 f150 supercab with rust

Ok, i went to go get some rough estimates on repairing the rust spots today and they said it would be about $1500 then i got to thinking if i was to just cut out the rust spots myself it would be cheaper, but what metal would i need to put back in there and how? i dont know how to weld but know people who can, any ideas on how i can fix it? its a nice 4x4 so im not wanting to get rid of it, but then again i dont want it to just rust out all over the place, is there any cheap but good fixes for it?

Cheap and good is an oxymoron. Once rust starts, the only way to completely stop it is panel replacement.
