can you stop the rust that has started

bought a 97 150 ext cab that had been driven in city a lot. now its very few miles any where. road salt gets everywhere. body is not rusting really but under the hood and frame ther is rust, any bolts can be a pain (have used some better words than that). Is there any products out there that can stop what rust is started besides some professional rust proofing shop. I think just crawlng under it with goggles and a good nozzle and getting old **** knocked off has to help. any ideas?

The only "under truck" product I've ever had any luck with is POR 15. It can do (depending on application method) a pretty good job at stopping surface rust. On the other hand, if you have rust coming through something from the back side - such as on a body panel - you're pretty much SOL.

As far as bolts that can be a pain, the exhaust manifold studs can be a real problem - but no coating is really going to help you there due to the heat cycling they go through and the fact that you have two dis-similar metals involved.

Get an expert paint job artist for this job. No amount of info online can really help you without consulting an expert you can physically talk with.

Go to a paint supply store and ask for a product called Rust Mort by SEM, Its an acid that will kill rust then por 15 over it (the por 15 metal prep sucks). DON'T get it on you as it will burn and it eats concrete. I brushed it on my bedside after removing that stupid butal pad cause there is one pin head sized rust bubble on the outside and it hasn't changed in about 4yrs now
