when the love-to-eat-thru-your-paint-bugs, are out in full force, i always spray the front end with pam, they won't stick or dry on truck, the ones that get stuck , will hose off easily

The best solution I have found to resolving
my bug and tar problems and the only one
that does work without rubbing and rubbing
is : "LIFTER 1 Bug & Tar Remover. It is a
Citrus Formula which is safe on all clear
coat finishes. You can find it at all
Wal-Marts. I find it the best I have
ever used and only sells for $2.97 a can.
The other ones are all junk and I have
used them all.

Have found that a really good pre-soaking works wonders. Also found that a little light rubbing with an old chamois works well in defeating the bugs. It also prevents scratching. Good luck in the fight!

My solution to the love bugs (on my wife's car)is to spray them with sugar water. Then let the ants eat the mess off!

There is currently a corny-*** commercial airing implying that WD-40 will remove bugs. Worth a try I guess.

i have seen the commercial in question. From a chemical standpoint, it seams to me that using WD-40 to remove bugs would also remove other things. Like the wax I worked so hard to put on. Any feelings on that guys?

Yup, it'll take the wax right off. BTW, it's also good for removing the sticky stuff tape leaves behind when you remove it.

I've felt we have our share of bugs in MI and have dealt with cleaning them off without stripping the wax by using Mequire's Quik Detailer. Spray it on and let it soak for minute or so. Dampen a small area of a towell and apply a little rubbing. It will get them off as easy as any way I've found that preserves the wax. The sooner you get to them the easier it is.

Talking

Here's on for ya' (I know ... too little too late - but it's a good story). My mom and dad, from West Virginia pulled their camper down to Florida a few years back (snow birds ya' know) with their rig (95 F250 4x4 XLT Supercab) and pased right through a cloud of the now world famed Luv Bugs. Well, not knowin' any better they went on about their happy campin' Excursion(tm) and a couple of moths later got back to the hills where they discovered bare metal where once there was paint. My dad, being the thrifty guy he is, figured that this was not a good thing so took his still warranted F250 to the F250 store and proceded to tell the F250 seller what he thought of the paint job. The F250 seller must have been as foreign to Luv Bug Juice as the ol man was because he proceded to examine, then ponder, then gawk, then fret. Then he scratched a couple of places under his skivy shirt and then he order the whole truck to be sanded, primed and painted in any color scheme my old man wanted. He what! He order $2500 worth of paint work to be done to the truck. Hmmmm ... guess where my old man bought his next one? Something to be said for "customer satisfaction" ...

Anyhow, I like the story.

i use WD-40, but don't wax. not yet, anyway. (had '88 T-bird for 8 years & never did anything but wash it...)

seems logical to apply wax after debugging instead of before, tho'.

I haven't had to use this since living in Georgia, but here's a trick I found out about from a Georgia local. Wash & wax the car first. Then on the front bumper, grill & bug shield wipe a coating of "Pam" (yes I am referring to the stuff you spray in the fry pan) with a clean rag you sprayed it onto first. The bugs just didn't stick to it, and the few that did just rinsed off with a garden hose.

I have never used it on a clear coat or paint, only plastic bug shields, aluminum grills and chrome bumpers. Other than the aroma of it when it's first put on, I never had any problems with it.

Be careful with the pressure washers! My dealership washes your car free for you for a year. My wife took her new 99 Sable in to be washed. A chunk of pain came off the front bumper when they use a pressure washer on the bugs. They said that this happens quite a lot on new painted plastic. They also said that it is covered by warranty.

I have to confirm jrsc on the Mequiar's Quick Detailer...works excellent on the bugs even after you've washed and missed a few.
