Rust

Just wanted to vent a little bit about whats happening to my 2001 f150. When I bought it the salesman "insisted" that Ford painting methods were now much improved and that the truck came with a lifetime warranty from Ford....lol for rust. I should of know better having been bitten by rust from Ford with a Taraus earlier in life. I am getting rust now (10 years and 82,000 miles later) at the inside bottoms of the front doors, along the bottom of the rear tailgate and bubbling paint on the front edge of the hood. Showed it to the dealer and asked what they could do for it thinking i was "covered", NOT. Was told unless the rust is thru-rust and has a actual hole they could do nothing and that I was way-over the warranty period anyways. What a load, I feel like I was taken, my own fault! I should of asked to see the specific language in the warranty and so forth. I am not a clean freak but I have been taking good car of the truck. Oh and the dealer undercoating I had done on it when I bought it, all peeled off mostly- that didn't last long. Just starting to feel bad about the whole Ford buying experience.

It's probably more about where your truck lived and the owner than a Ford problem. If it stayed up north or someplace snowy and or salty and the owner didn't do very good routine and preventive maintenance you may have more than rust problems down the road. Then again maybe he did proper maintenance but lived near the ocean or played at the beach often and you just have rust problems to deal with. Try to research where the truck came from and maintenance performed then you will know what you are working with.

I owned a 2001 Screw for 3 years that never saw the ocean, never saw snow or ice and went to sleep in a garage every night.

Good luck!

"So is it Ford's fault?" No Sir, my own 100% for buying into the sales pitch about the paint. Just a bit dissapointed at how long my preventative measures lasted. Other then buying a house this is the a big expenditure one has when buy a new vehicle. You just hate to see it rust away before your eyes.

Is there anyway to prevent this rust on the doors you guys are talking about? I haven't checked my truck to see if it has rust on it yet, and if there isn't, I'd like to do something to prevent it from happening if possible.

If you are the original owner and rinsed the lower inside of your doors until you flushed water from one end to the other (drain holes), you are probably ok. If either or both you and the previous owners neglected that area for years...it's going to rust thru if either drove on salty roads or beaches.

10 years in Minneapolis? It speaks well for the vehicle if it's not totally eaten up! That's a very harsh environment.
