Sand in the Engine Bay

What is the best way to get sand out of the engine bay? I've read varying opinions on here about using a hose and don't want to mess up anything. My local surf break is basically only accessible by driving on the beach unless you walk like a mile so I figure I need to clean it asap because of the salt.

I go on the beach once or twice per year...and the sand is THICK until you get out to the hard pack. IMO, wash everything down THOROUGHLY from the bottom side of the truck, especially around your wheels and steering components. I usually do this at the power wash. I do NOT recommend spraying the engine bay down from the top unless you know how to stay away from sensitive components. I personally just blow compressed air from the top to get rid of the majority. What remains I learn to live with. Good luck!!!
