The wax seems to be holding up just fine, although I know I need to wax them again soon.

I ran mine year round for 5yrs now .
I take a SOS soap pad to them and then a hit with some 1000 grit wet sand paper, wash with a wheel cleaner and polish in the spring .

The SOS gets alot of the crap out and shines them up pretty good alone , Ill try to do it a time or two during the winter to keep them somewhat cleaned up till spring . The SOS will put light scratches in it but with light pressure and keeping it wet with water the better . After you hit it with a light wet sand and polished they just need to be cleaned and polish during the summer.

I polish alot of alum and the SOS cuts out alot of the wet sanding you normally have to do.

Here's a pic of them washed w/ SOS and then polished.
