severe scratches, down to the metal
oh great. yeah i guess thats probably what the deal was with the guy at the shop i took it too. but that was just a little shop in town, do you think maaco would have a problem with it?
I have never dealt with Maaco so I couldnt tell you but it wouldnt hurt to give them a call and ask the painter.

did you end up finding some one to paint your 87?

Yes the shop that I talked to about the prep work is the one that did the work because I didnt do any prep to the truck.
I would call around and talk to a few shops and see what they say. You may get lucky and find a good shop that will work with you on this.
Maaco will paint just about anything usually. But you have to be very careful when you get something painted from them. If you pay for the cheap paint job I would suggest moving/taking off/covering up anything you dont want painted over because Maaco has painted cars before and painted over emblems and door moldings things like that. Its one of those 'get what you pay for deals'.
