suggestions and help

Hi there everyone,

Hows it going today. I am good. I have a question and I need help. Ever since I came back from Helping out in the Flood zone in Fargo,ND and Moorhead, MN I have had a hell of a time washing my truck? I bught here a few weeks back a briggs and straton 6.75 horse 2250 psi preassure washer think that would help well it hasn't or maybe its the soap. I have tried the preassure washer soap and it really doesn't help.

any help?

thanks in advance

A pressure washer will strip the paint right off if you are not careful.

You should have posted before you did it....

Unless you are specifically using car wash soap, pressure washer soap is probably going to strip your wax at a minimum since most soaps for the washer are dedicated to difficult jobs like decks, fences, siding and concrete.

Oops

Ok you know what you just might be right. I switched to Maguiers thats got the deep crystals in it. That seems to help. I also have that NXT T or whatever it is wax from from maguiers to.

Thanks for the advice. I always use my preasure washer on the lowest setting.

take care,

See if you can post some pics. You probably need a paint cleaner, polish and wax. Meguires has a 1,2,3 step system that works pretty good. Or take it to a detailer.

Hard water from the hose will give you a dull finish also. I live in Coon Rapids and we have hard water here. I have even had one of my outside water hoses hooked to the soft water. That fixes the issue.

You can try this Waterstick

Others have already told you the dangers of using a pressure washer to wash your truck....personally, I think its a bad idea for several reasons.

1. You need to read the detail sticky on the proper ways to wash your truck/car
2. higher presser can actually drive dirt and grim deeper into the paint and thus will cause more scratching or micro marring, should use lighter pressure when rinsing the surface.
3. Hand washing will provide better results if done properly...see sticky

Ok that said, what you need to do is properly wash your truck with a car soap and properly dilute it. Too much soap can also be bad for the finish.

You're due for a good polish/correction pending the condition of your paint.

If that is the case and based on what you have said it is...you'll need to follow this process (after reading the sticky of course)

Wash
Clay
Polish/Correct
Burnish/Jewel (Optional)
Seal (optional)
LSP (not optional)

Post some photos in the DIRECT SUN or under SHOP lights so we can see what you are working with. Reflection shots show NOTHING.

We'll take it from there.
