Cleaning your 5.4L engine...

I have searched the net for tips and advice to no avail. So I thought I would post here...I live on a rural dusty road. Won't be long till its nasty.

Anyone? Do's and don'ts. Advice. Suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Short and sweet - don't. Blow the dust off with an air compressor. COP-equipped Tritons hate to be washed.

I hit mine with a light water mist, work stubborn areas with a damp, soft mitt with little detergent on it, another light water mist and let it air dry. I may dress plastic pieces and hoses with protectant, but not all the time. Stays fairly clean. Been doing this since I brought the truck home. No problems. - Og

I hit mine with a power washer. Not the hole thing. i didnt dare get close to the throttle body, or computer area. I also didnt get close to the coils. Everything else I spray, and it does a great job loosening everything up, and making it able to be buffed. Looks pretty after its all said and done.

There are several threads here about that, use the search and you'll find all you need to know.

If you do it right, you won't have a problem.

I spray the under hood and the rest of the engine compartment with Simple Green, let it sit for a few minutes, and then rinsing everything clean with a garden hose and then taking a shop vac to the pockets on the intake manifold where water sits. And like Og said, hit the plastic and hoses with some Armor All or equivalent, but do it while everything is wet. Simple as that.I just did mine a couple of weeks ago, here's under my hood after 132,000 miles:

Thanks to all. I will continue my research as I don't want a dirty engine. Living on my road I know is a big hassle but if I can do it once every couple of months maybe.
