Buffer Opinion

I am looking for a buffer and saw this one on amazon
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...pf_rd_i=507846

I do not know if it is a DA or more of a rotary. I read one of the reviews and they said the people who make makita also make this brand. I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on this. I will only use it a few times a year for my cars and maybe some family members, so I don't need a high quality one which is why I did not want to spend a lot of money. Anyway, if anyone has any opinions I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

It works for me I just have no advice as I've never seen it before or heard anything about it.

Ok now it worked. I also have been looking for a buffer. This one is 3000 RPM. Unless your a pro or have used buffers before, your likely to remove too much material and/or cause burn outs. You should be looking for OPM (Orbits Per Minute) like the Porter Cable 7424.

Looks like a pure rotary to me. It's variable speed.

if it is a variable speed and will go down to 800 rpms or less than it might not be a bad deal for a at home buffer....idk how long it will hold up...the pad that touches the surface is what is important here along with the product under the pad....if the buffer is on or off full out no varible speed....dont even consider it.

you can toss out names like makita or dewalt or flex...but when someone shows something like this to toss out a $350 machine when someone ask about a $70 machine...come on

nothing wrong with rotarys....the best work i have ever seen has come from rotary (though they do take time to learn and master....)

if you are a pro then ignor my coments,
IF it's not a variable speed, then don't buy it, how to? everyone know, but hands on is different story you need to practice this at low speed, get a hang for it first before go crazy, so the varible speed come in very handy

Product Description
From the Manufacturer
Dependability, light weight (only 7-pounds) and performance are quickly making this one of the most popular polishers in the industry. Features include easy on/off switch with slow start, dial speed control and adjustable side and "D" handles for either right or left-hand use. Comes with extra set of brushes, rubber backing pad and Velcro pad.

Product Description
Features: • 11 Amps, 1,0003,000 RPM • On/Off Trigger, Dial Speed Control • Slow Start, Weighs only 7 Lbs! • Adjustable side & “D” handles positioned for left or right handed use • 1 Rubber Pad; 1 Velcro Pad • Extra Set of Brushes
This looks to be much like the lower end Harbor Freight models of rotaries. The description clearly states an on/off switch and variable speed. This would make it usable but barely. I have a Harbor Freight one and it can be a bit difficult to handle. Those on/off triggers have a tendency to break and what you really want in a rotary is a “variable speed trigger”.
It is a true rotary and not a DA. I know it's twice the price but I would highly suggest the G110 from ADS it will take care of all your needs without breaking the bank too badly.
For someone who is budget minded, not doing many cars, and just starting out a flex would be cost prohibitive and frankly using a canon to kill a mosquito metaphorically speaking. I do my cars, my family’s cars, and several on the side every year. Even then it doesn’t offset the cost of a flex. I’d like to have one but you always pay for the “latest and greatest.” As stated before the pad will make a lot of difference.
Again bang for your buck will come from a Porter&Cable/G110. You’ll be a lot happier down the road.

PC 7424 FTW. I just picked up a new one from tropi-care.com. It was a complete kit with 6" backing pad, larger counterweight, and quite a few 6" pads. They also had a 10% off code on their main page.

Okay, so is the porter or the megs better? They both seem to be about the same price. Thanks.

If you're talking about the Meg's G110, there have been a lot of problems with them but they have supposedly been fixed... supposedly. The PC 7424 is a proven machine. The G110 has a bit more power though. I would put my money on the 7424. I have one and have gotten very good results with it. If you can get a G100 (discontinued) it is the same thing as the 7424 but has Meg's name on it and it has a lifetime warranty. However, they will replace it with a G110 anyway. If you want to wait, Porter Cable is coming out with the 7424XP which is supposed to be an all around better machine than the 7424. More than likely it will be more expensive as well which is to be expected, esecially until the majority of 7424s are off the market.
