Getting Ready for First Detail
Getting Ready for First Detail
I just purchased a 2008 KR S'Crew, Forest Green/Pueblo Gold and I absolutely love the truck. I just went over the detailing sticky & Detailing Guide and got a bunch of pointers and great advice from everyone that contributed. Now I'm getting ready to give my new truck its first detail. I will need to buy some supplies and figure out some time to do this - and a place to do it as the winter weather isn't helping things here. Time to check some suppliers for products and get going. Any advice is always welcome!

Awesome. Looks like you're heading in the right direction already just trying to figure out how to properly take care of your new investment. Sounds like you're a newbie to detailing. Any idea on a budget yet? There are a lot of different products and brands out there. The initial dive in to detailing can be a little expensive depending on how serious you are. One way to make things easier on the wallet is to try and find a place that has all or most of what you want. It'll help cut down on shipping costs. Well, atleast until you start getting curious about other products and start ordering from other places.
So, any special brand you want to try? Do you plan on using a machine like a DA or doing everything by hand?
Looking forward to those pictures.

I am sold on Adam's Polishes products. They carry most of what you will need to do a good job on your detailing. Even if you don't buy their products, take a few minutes to look at the videos they have on their web site. They provide some very good tips on detailing techniques, etc.
One thing to think about, even though you have a brand new vehicle, do yourself a favor and clay bar your truck. You will be amazed at how much junk you will remove from the paint like rail dust, etc. You will be glad that you took the extra time it takes.

Welcome to what some would call a sickness (detailing ocd), One word of advice is to ask alot of questions before actually workin on the truck.

Thanks everyone for the welcomes and pointers. It's snowing here again so I'm sure it will be a little while before I really get the chance to detail the new ride. Here's a pic I was able to get the yesterday before I went out - and onto the pretreated roads (a brine spray pretreatment is the new thing around here).

The detailing sticky is fantastic and offered a lot of good info. I've started to look around at products but will have to find a block of time some day to really go through them all and then pick the ones I'll use.
Although I've cleaned and waxed many vehicles throughout the years, I'm definitely new to the OCD of detailing. I want to make the truck look great from the start and then keep it that way for years to come. I'll take any advice people want to offer as to how to start off - especially in the northeast climate with all the cold/salt/snow etc.
So far I've done everything by hand, using mostly Mothers or Meguiars products. I usually got compliments on how clean and nice looking my 2001 S'Crew was and I mainly just kept it washed and put a few coats of wax on it every year. I'm definitely considering going to the next level with the DA and the multiple steps for cleaning and treating the paint. I know the effort will be worth the results gained.
As I said, I'll be looking at the sites noted here and get some pricing info to set a budget and go from there. I look forward to the advice and info from the vast knowledge base you all have.
Thanks!
