Small Dent

So, I used to work at a body shop and I dont even know this answer!

I have a small dent on my '06 Explorer about 3" in front of the gas cap. I would say its about dime sized. How much do you think it would cost to get it bumped out and painted? I know they would probably have to blend into the door, but not the rear hatch. Any ideas?

I know it's really small, But it annoys the hell out of me, especially the way it POPS after a nice wax job!

Is the paint cracked? If not, paintless dent repair will be cheap. About $35.

I had a dent removed from a local PDR guy for $55. Took him about 10 minutes and looks good as new.

Could be. I had a tree fall across the hood and had 4 dents on the top of the fender and cowl. Had those plus a door ding removed for $130. Can't tell they were ever there. That was a couple of years ago, so they have probably gone up some.

When he gets through, I bet you won't be able to find it.

I have had 5 dents removed, one a door ding, 4 where an oak next to the driveway was blown down and was resting across the front fender. You cannot find them. These guys are artists. Just takes lots of patience to work it out with little metal spoons, from underneath.

They should be able to get that out no problem. You won't even be able to tell when they are done.

I had a dent worked out of the side of my bed last year - cost me $100 but you absolutely cannot tell it was ever damaged.

Probaly won't see a thing on that one... the only thing that worries me with the dent you posted is that it looks pretty direct and blunt. I'm worried that the metal may have stretched ever so slightly and thus, you may still be able to see it a tad...

Maybe not...

My dad had a baseball hit removed from the roof of his old F-150... it was the result of a direct hit from a foul ball. The guy removed 98% of it, I'd guess... said he couldn't get the rest because the metal had stretched slightly from the impact. Being that it was on the roof of the truck, it wasn't a big deal...

The PDR guys are voodoo artists... I bet he'll succeed. Post before and afters!

So I figured out that the dent is from the Gas cap Lid swinging open too far and hitting the panel. And it should be pretty easy to get to, you just have to remove the panel that is inside the gas lid and you can reach it from the Wheel well.

like RP said, these guys practice black magic compared to the conventional dent-removal practices. it will look as though it was never hit, and you won't see a wave in the paint. i had a ding like that worked out on my F-150's tailgate, and you can't ever tell it was damaged...
