ow do you clean brake "rust" off rims?
Chemicals and procedures are different depending what the wheels are - polished aluminum, chrome, clearcoated, matte, whatever. Just because something says something like "All Wheel Cleaner" doesn't mean it's safe on all wheels. Megs All Wheel Cleaner says it's only safe for factory, coated, or painted wheels.
I use Megs all wheel cleaner, and it works good on my factory wheels. But I think I could probably use a wet rag and they would wipe clean. I wish that I could find something that I could just spray on and hose off and the wheel would be spotless. Don't think that exists though.
I spray APC on a wheel and let it sit for about 30 seconds and use an old wash mit and a wheel brush to wash my wheels and I never have a problem getting brake dust off of the wheels. I would probably stay away from SOS pads and steel wool.
