#7 dissappointed me...
#7 dissappointed me...
I tried #7 for the first time this weekend on my truck and I saw no difference? Did I do something wrong or what? Used my DA as usual. I thought it would have given me some more "pop" at least.
What one will typically notice with #7 on a dark colored truck like yours is that it will deepen and darken the finish a tad. While it's not a spectacular transformation typically, most will note some improvements in overall look.
Can you give us a bit of your methodology and such?

#7 is really intended for a single stage paint to be impressive. You're putting it on clearcoat...how much can it really do? There is a reason that 99.9% of people could not see ANY difference between a fresh coat of ANY coat of wax on the same paint.
That said, I tried #7 and thought it did nothing on my red, clearcoated finish. I did half the hood, and called it a day. the next day I parked my car in the sun and as I walked away I froze because something caught my eye. There was a distinct line up the middle of the hood and one half was definitely darker than the other.
It does something, just don't expect miracles on clear coats.

I just wanted to try it because I see everyone using it. I used a w8006 pad, put DA on speed 1 to spread product as usual, kicked it up to 5 and worked it in. Removed with a MF and kept goin.
Another question...How does #80 compare to #2 as far as removal goes? I love the results of #2 but my paint isnt in bad shape so I don't usually need that much cut, plus it's difficult to remove at times.

7 is what Meguiars terms a pure polish meaning it has no defect removal abilities, and will add oils to the paint to help freshen up old single stage paint. When working it with a pc try using a 9006 finishing pad and use speed 3 for application not 5. Also try and remove it before it dries for easier removal. 7 is for single stage paint since I am sure you have clear coat paint you could try 81 hand polish and apply by hand or use the pc the same way that I just described above doing one panel at a time.
To answer your second question I will try my best. I have no experience with 2 but 80 and 2 are designed for different types of paint. 80 for clear and 2 for single stage. They use different types of abrasives in each. 2 if you put some in your hand you could feel a bit of grittiness to it while 80 has more of a hand lotion feel to it. 80 use diminishing abrasives and 2 uses more of a traditional non-diminishing abrasive. When to paint is properly prepped (washed and clayed) it removes very easy with a micro fiber or 100% terry towel. 80 also has the same trade secret oils as 7 so after 80 is used you may or may not need to use 7 or 81 after it. I hope I was able to help you out.
Andrew
