Ouch!

i loaned my dad the truck for the week and he was nice enough to wash it before he gave it back..... but he broke the cardinal rule.... yes, THE BRUSH!!

spider webs/swirling pretty much everywhere as well as some water spotting. i feel sick when i look at it.

would this set up do the job?

- SSR2
- SSR1
- Black Hole
- EX-P
- Natty's Blue
- Flex XC3401 VRG Dual Action 6.5 inch Pad kit.
- 1 Foamed Wool 6.5 inch polishing/buffing pad
- 1 CCS Orange 6.5 inch light cutting Foam pad
- 2 CCS White 6.5 inch Polishing Foam Pads
- 1 CCS Grey 6.5 Inch Finishing Foam Pad.
- 1 CCS Blue 6.5 Inch Finessing Foam Pad
- 2 Cobra Indigo Edgless Microfiber Polishing Cloths
- 4 Cobra Microfiber 6.5 inch bonnets

I dont know LC pads very well, but I can almost 100% say that you DONT need to use wool... At least not if you are using SSR2 instead of 3... Also, I am guessing you want to do wax removal with bonnets? Not sure if I'd go that route... But everyone has their own ways...

Anywho, it should be a good lineup. The only thing I'd say is that you will want to clay it after that torment. Other than that, keep in mind the least aggressive approach. I'm sure though that you can safely start with SSR2. If necessary (and if you have it), you might jump to SSR 2.5 or even 3. But I cant reccommend pads for you; I know Megs pads... Dont have the money here for LC stuff. Too many to buy...

I feel for you man... My dad has done the same to me more than once...

Also-- I'm not sure how much it has been discussed here, but you may want to be doing alcohol wipedowns between each polishing step to ensure that you are REALLY removing all you think you are-- you will be surprised what's left behind....

what megs pads would you recommend? if i could i would like to lower cost without sacrificing results. i wasnt planning on using the wool or doing bonnet removal. it just came as a package.

maybe go with a porter cable 7424 instead of the flex... i know that the flex is a great machine. but is it worth the extra expense for me right now? opinions?

which DA kit?

i REALLY need to go to bed... im holding a forum conversation with myself.

Honestly, I'd check out ADS and D/A polisher pack #2 or #3... then substitute a few things here and there....

Even still, you should start searching for RollingRock's posts about LC pads-- he posted a lot and knows his *****...

For pads in Megs, I'd say get 2-3 9006 pads, 3-4 8006, and 1-2 7006 pads.
You need some sort of abrasive (I'd say either the SSR lineup, OR #80, OR #83 and #80)
you might want somethign for in between (IE: Black hole or #9)
you will need your synthetic (ie: #21, NXT, EX-P, etc)
you will need you wax (ie: #26, #16, nattys red/white/blue)
you need clay and QD (prolly #34 for QD)
you need towels (ADS bulk MF are GREAT)

etc...

How much you looking at spending? I'll find something for you if you want given a price... Its hard to recommend stuff though if I dont know how much you want to spend. Feel free to email/PM it if you dont want it posted all over the web.

i looked at autogeek.net and filled up a cart with the poorboys lineup that i listed as well as the 7424 kit that i listed and it came out close to 300. i wouldn't mind paying probably an extra 100.

yikes, i feel your pain. Im not too knowledgeable about pads and what not.. Just wanted to say i hope you get it back to how you like it. Post pics after the detail man.

i will not dissapoint with the pics. i need to figure out what my game plan is before i can get started on it though. hopefully more people will chim in about the different DA kits. im pretty sure that im gonna go with that poorboys line up that i listed. but im still not certain on th DA kit. im leaning more towards the 7424 but as far as what set of pads i should go with is something that im still a little confused about.

There aren't supposed to be water spots and spiderwebs?! I thought that's what happens to all paint.

NO!!! there aren't supposed to be webs and water spots. little micro marring is to be expected from washing. but you fix that.

Maxi!

I like my Porter Cable 7424. If you do get the 6 inch (I think) velcro backing plate, be sure to get a new counter weight. It'll make a world of difference on your hands after using it!

the kit does says it comes with the wrench and it comes with another weight. is that the one that you are talking about?

It's been suggested before to use 4" pads with a DA. Two benefits I know are the polish breaks down faster and you can get in areas otherwise not really possible with a 6.5" pad. I wish I had some 4" pads sometimes but I only have the 6.5" and I get by alright. I use LC CCS pads and am happy with them. A lot of people like the Megs pads. I think you'll be happy either way. Just get plenty of polishing pads since they're the workhorse pads and you'll use more of them than anything, especailly if you're experimenting with different polishes to find what works best on that particular vehicle since all paints can be different. RollingRock I believe uses the LC VC pads. I don't remember his reasons behind liking those more than the CCS pads. I think one is it's easier to center the pad on the backing plate. You could give Scott at Specialty Motoring a call. He carries the LC pads and the Poorboy's lineup. He's a real good guy as well. RR knows him. The only downside is I don't think he carries any machines. But I could be wrong. He informed me on another forum after I had placed an order that he had some stuff that wasn't on his website. He contacted me and offered to adjust my order and billed me the difference which was awesome. If you contact him, tell him what you're looking to do. He'll be more than happy to help you. Defintely don't skimp on the MF Towels though. You will use way more than you expect. It's just how it works. Scott's Fluffinator is a nice towel. He sent me one to try out with my order. My only gripe being it's a 16x16 and I like the 16x24 towels. A lot of people prefer the 16x16 though.
