Dyson Absolute Animal?

I have seen this vac mentioned before. Does anyone have one?
I want to buy one for the house as I have 2 Australian Shepherds who shed a bit (on light tan carpetting)....I figure I can persuade the significant other to ignore the price a bit since this thing is supposed to be great in the house....

but the reason I posted this here is that I read that it comes with a mini turbine head. If the mini turbine head is the powerful hand tool that I believe it to be- this thing should be great vacuuming the truck's carpet
I use a shop vac presently, but a powered brush vac might be that much better?

Ive been looking at the write ups on them and the only down side ive read was picking up pet hair. But everyone I talked to who has one loves it. Im thinking of getting one also.

I was reading the write ups as well- it gets great reviews. I had a question though after reading them. How well does it pick up after the brush wears in after 6 months? I have tried brand new but cheap vacuums. Right away they grab more stuff out of the carpet than my Electrolux-the first few times I use them, but after 6 months, the brush wears out a bit and I always go back to the Electrolux.

I am definitely looking forward to the Animal's hand tool to be able to maintain my gray carpet in the truck based on the reviews.

I like the one I bought recently. I haven't tried the turbo head in the truck yet, but it works pretty good on the stairs. It picks up the dog hair nicely.

If you do buy one, do this when you get it.
Vaccumn the house with your current vac.
Use the Dyson directly after. You will be amazed by the stuff your old vac left behind!

Like I said earlier though- even if i buy a cheap $80 hoover,I see a lot coming up that was left behind by the old worn Electrolux. But after a few months, the brushes wear in on the cheapo vac and dont aggitate the carpet fibers as much anymore. How is the Dyson in this respect?

Have you used the mini turbine in your truck?

I have it. It's fantastic for the house... the turbo head isn't anything to get real excited about for the vehicle - it's air driven; not motor driven.

There's another thread here about it... might try to excavate it.

Hey Les...two aussies here too! A red merle and a tri-black.

We have the purple Dyson...which I think is the animal version...and although it is great around the house, like RP says, the mini-head is basically useless for a car or truck.

For what it's worth, Dyson customer service (and warranty) is top shelf.

What kind of warranty issue did you have with yours, ErnScott? (or am I reading too much in to that?)

My wife came close to a spool of thread and it wrapped completely around the edge of the brush roller. 100% user error but when I called it in, they insisted on replacing it via the warranty. This was a few months ago

Previously, we had the original yellow Dyson, which I think is their basic model now, and it did have a motor issue. We sent it in (on their dime) and they sent back a new one.

That *is* impressive service.

I noted that they had a regional sales manager position available in my market less than a couple of months ago. I contemplated checking in on it -- even though I have no formal sales experience. They seem like a great company...

It's a great product and sells itself...once folks get past the sticker shock.

Frankly, we realized we were buying a vacuum cleaner almost every year...that pattern stopped when we switched to the Dysons.

They been ramping up US presence last few years...so maybe that position could have been a good thing.

I have the "yellow one" the original one i guess, ha ha.

I looked at the animal closely before i shelled out the extra cash for it over the yellow one. With the exception of the brush head and the color, the two are identical, same motor and everything. I had a vacuum with a brush head and was not impressed with it, so i opted for the cheaper, but still expensive yellow dyson. I have 2 cats that shed a lot and have been very pleased with it.

My advice is to save the cash and go with the yellow dyson, you wont me disappointed.

I have had a Dyson for over 2 years and there is not any brush wear to be concerned with. We have 2 dogs and 2 cats and the Dyson does an excellent job picking up the hair.

I used the turbine on my Ford Explorer when I first got the Dyson. I wasn't overly impressed so I went back to using the trusty 'ol Shop-vac.

just my $.02

My wife wanted a Dyson for two years and I wouldn't get her one. Finally did last year and that thing is great. Kinda gross how much stuff it picks up the first time. No problems with any of the attachments so far. I reccommend them. Great Christmas Present for the Wifey :santa:
