Heck, for doing a test spot you can even use an old washcloth or face towel or even an old T-shirt wrapped around your finger. You only need to hit a spot the size of a quarter in a low visibility area for this test. No sense in possibly getting SS paint stains in something decent. Just make sure whatever you use is clean.
