Please help with scratch (Pics)

I've got a nice new scratch on my tailgate...it's pretty deep. Is this something that I can repair myself with a product at my local car parts store, or does this need to be professionally fixed?

Any and all advice is appreciated, thanks.

I can tell you right now from looking at it that it will need some paint work. You could dry a Duplicolor 2in1 scratch fix paint pen but if you want it done properly it will need to be resprayed.

I'm a police officer and one of my fellow co-workers (very tall) was squeezing between my truck and another vehicle and the butt of his pistol in his holster scratched up against my tail gate. He told me about it right away and offered to pay to have it fixed.

bummer. good luck on getting it fixed properly. at least you can just take your tailgate where ever to get it fixed and not have to worry about being without your truck.

At least he told you about it. I've got some friends that are LEOs and I know without doubt that they wouldn't tell anyone.
