Horrible Clearcoat!

I just started doing some cleaning and stuff on my truck, not planning on doing the whole nine yards. But I've found some NASTY clearcoat imperfections on my hood that I didnt remember from before, its not a problem anywhere else on the truck but the hood. Any suggestion on ways to mask this or correct it?

I am afraid that no one can give you any advice with the description you have given. You need to be more specific in the details and pictures of the defects would help your cause and likely gain you the assistance you require.

Haha, I was just about to edit my post to say that I was gonna get pictures up ASAP. But it kinda looks like some smashes bugs sat on it and ate through the clear, which is quite possible because its been in the shop for almost 4 months now (Body shop then straight to the motor shop)

I just finally got it back last week and the rain has subsided for atleast half a day here in Jax, so I thought I'd try to clean it up a bit. Sorry if these pics are huge I dont know how to resize.

Can you feel the imperfections in the clear when you drag your fingernail across it? Have you tried clay baring it yet?

Clay. And read the sticky. And possibly let us know how involved you wanna go. Also, describe the problem as in depth as you can without writing a book on it. Then we can BEST assist you.

I've actually clayed it a few times since I've had it (about a year). It is actually like little small holes in the clearcoat. I can definetely feel them even after I clay it, but I know the clay is working because the feel is alot better than before, but there is still those spots and "holes".

Sounds like it is in the clear coat itself. There might not be anything you can do other then repainting it.

I think 05_sprcrw is right...

Anywho, can you snap some photos that are NOT close up? More of a 10' away shot of the area?

I am thinking touch up paint might help to hide it, but if the area is more than the size of a dime, it would prolly look like poo.

If your finger is catching it, unfortunately there isnt much you can do short of a respray or at a bare minimum touch up paint...

About the best you are going to do without professional attention would be this -

Wash and clay the whole truck. Clay those spots a second time. Get a tube of ScratchX and use it on those spots according to directions. Might as well hit any other nasty spots on the truck with it while you are at it. You may have to hit the spots several times. Then "wax" the truck with NXT 2.0.

from 10 feet away it looks fine, you cant spot the problems....well....it doesnt look brand new by any means, but its not NEAR as bad as close up...I'm about to post a thread with some finished pics.

Thanks for the help guys.
