1st Wash since ...

Well, I got to wash the car for the first time since my surgery. I also got to try out a few new products so I thought I'd give a little review of them. Here's the overview of what I did ...

I cleaned the inside of the car a few days ago. I vac'd the carpets, I steam cleaned them with the Bissell Little Green Machine: Pro Heat, treated and dressed all plastics with Poorboy's Natural Look Dressing, treated the leather with Meguiars D-Line Leather Cleaner/Conditioner. The Bissell LGM was a new product that I got to try out on my car for the first time. It's an awesome little machine. I was able to pick it up locally from Target for $80. It's very easy to operate and move around. I'd recommend it if you need something to clean your carpets. Not to mention you could use it around the house.

I washed the car tonight using the two bucket method and grit guards. Soap of choice was DP Xtreme Shampoo, mitt was SM Arnold Lambs Wool Mitt as well as the AutoGeek.net foam gun. I washed the vehicle's paint first. Than proceeded to wash the wheels, tips, and the inside of the fenders using a Meguiars Microfiber mitt. Finishing up the wheels using the EZ Detail Brush on the inside of the wheel as well as cleaning the calipers. This was the my first time using the EZ Detail Brush and I'm sold on it. I love it. The only thing that is odd at first is it gets a little slippery where you hold it. However it does what it says and very good. I also got to try my new Mothers Contoured Tire Brush to clean the tires. It's a pretty good size and my tires are very thin so I ended up holding it sideways. It worked very well though. I'd highly recommend both of these items.

I finished up by drying the car with a backpack blower after using the "sheeting" method. I followed up with a Pak Shak waffle weave towel to dry any spots. The Pak Shak waffle weave was a new product as well. It's simply amazing, much better than the Meguiars Water Magnet. It's so light and soft. Once I pulled it into the garage, I touched up the car with the waffle weave. Than started applying Hyperdressing 1:1 to the tires and 3:1 to the wheel wells and the undercarriage. I decided to try out the Pinnacle Souverän™. My take on it is that it's very easy to apply. I think it's going to last a LONG time, not on the paint, but inside the container. Application was easy as was the removal. I removed the product with a Pak Shak Ultra-Plush with Satin edges (Also a new product). I think the Souverän™ looks great, it's on the same level with #16, maybe a little deeper. One thing I did notice was that it does have a different feel to it once on the paint. It's very hard to describe, you'll have to see for yourself. It's not a bad thing though. My impression on the Pak Shak Ultra-Plush towels is that these are by far the best towels I've ever used. Enough talk, here are some pictures. It started raining so I couldn't pull it out so these will do for now. I figured I'd get crap for no pictures. Tomorrow I'll try to get some pictures at work. What do you guys think?

I am curious as to how you think Sovereign (I know, I prolly spelled it wrong...) will last long based on first time use???

From what I have heard, it is a more short lived but nice looking wax.

BTW-- #16 looks great, but it is by no means an industry standard-- I think its performance is what draws the attention to it, kinda like a #26 on 'roids... Sovereign is 1000x more focused on looks than #16 was.

Ryan, I think you may have misunderstood me. This is what I said ..

I think it's going to last a LONG time, not on the paint, but inside the container.
I was talking about the container is going to last a long time. As far as comparing it to #16. I never said it was a "industry standard". However, the two waxes have very similar looks in my opinion. Souverän™ definitely has it beat, slightly, in the looks department. However #16 is a much more long lasting wax. So it's a trade off.

Yeah-- trade off indeed... now that the part above was clarified, this is a no brainer re-reading your OP... Doh!

Do it, you'll be happy that you did. I've been using the Bissell cleaner fluid and it's pretty good. It smells good, too. I've heard APC+ works great in it as well. I haven't tried it for myself yet though. I don't really have a need to, my carpets are not that dirty.

Jeff, I forgot to mention that, thanks for reminding me. I was going to do a big write up this weekend and use my roof as a test spot for each wax. I was going to do #16, Natty's Red and Blue, CG Pete's 53, CG 5050, Souverän™, and possibly #21 just for comparison's sake. I was thinking though. I probably shouldn't put a glaze down before using the waxes. What do you think?

whatever you do, make sure you do for all. personally i dont think you need to correct any paint. but id wait a few weeks till the souveran wore off. then id strip it. p21s taw or chemical guys citrus wash would be what id use. then id do the test.

I was just going to do the roof since the whole car doesn't need a full detail. I was planning on just claying it, a quick pass of #80, iso. alc. 50/50 wipe down, than tape everything off and apply the waxes.

I was real tempted the other night at Walmart, but I need to order some things from Bass Pro. The carpet on my center hump gets pretty dirty during hunting season because my floor liners don't cover it. Between that and a 10 month old in my truck and house, I could really use some extra cleaning power.

Glad to see you were able to get out Thump. I'm with Iam4st8...I've never seen your Stang other than close up. Looking forward to some pictures taken outside.

I wouldnt even bother with the clay and 80 unless it needs it. but ya, doing it on the roof is a good idea. it would be a great treat when i got back from my vacation to see the pics.
