Tire Gloss Question.

Well, untill this month i've been slack on how i clean my tires.. I simply sprayed them off and applied new tires shine every wash.

Now, i have a TON of gunk and crap in the ridges/letters of the tire where the tire just looks dirty all the time. Simple green isnt cutting it... Should i let the SG sit on the tire and then scrub and just repeat untill the tire is not greasy? I would do this but im afraid the SG will harm my chrome rims.

So.. Will the SG hurt the chrome if exposed on it for a period of time while it soaks in the tire? And, is there anything better i can pick up over the counter to get the job done easier? (that also, won't hurt my rims)

Thanks in advanced,
B

wow, 35 questions in 2 sentences. LOL

Just kidding

I don't use SG anymore, I prefer to use Megs APC+. it will eat thorugh any wax you have on there in mear nano seconds so you need to apply it carefully.

This is not the best way, it's how I do it. I take APC+ and put in a "wheel" bucket and add water I use stiff brush to dip in the solution and apply to wheels. If the wind is not blowing I will use a spray bottle and allow to work down...with APC+ that takes only about 20 seconds then I still use the brush method.

Why don't you send me your signature photo full res and I will take you out of it and the date....its kind of bothering me.

Once againn thanks, sorry for all the questions, and i think its amazing how as soon as you see a post or reply you just jump all over it! I love this website!

Don't you want a clean photo for your signature? Send me the file and I will fix it for you....take advantage of my good mood or I will wish flocks of birds poop on your tuck mixed with tree sap and road tar. Your other photo was cool....

BTW, I take no responsiblity for APC+ on chrome. I have no idea if it can cuase damange but remember this, APC+ is designed as a carpet cleaner. Go figure.

Disclaimer - use this with EXTREME CAUTION -

Westley's Bleech White with a stiff brush. If you are careful and quick with it, it shouldn't hurt the chrome. THOROUGHLY rinse it and reapply protection to the wheels.

Maybe you could tape something over the wheels to minimize overspray.

Then throw away your tire shine and use Hyperdressing.

I'd follow JP's suggestion of the Meguiars APC+ to clean the gunk off. It's one of my favorite products, it's so awesome, especially on motors. Get the bottles that ADS sells for it though, that way you won't screw up the dilution.

Now take this as a lesson learned. I always wash my tires, every wash. I only use a dedicated mitt for the tires and only use soap and water. It cleans them just fine, too. Just don't slack off or you'll run into problems like this. I'd also get rid of your tire shine and use Hyperdressing for now on ...

I like to use a nice thick layer of mud on my sidewalls. Its free and self-applying. But to each his own.

I'll pass along this little tip and I am not sure its the truth our not but it does make sense. When working with chrome wheels, make sure they are not HOT like after driving....I was told by my wheel guy when I cleaned them to do so either in the morning when cool or at ambient temp but not while hot.
