what do i need to do to prep before painting?

I plan on painting my the trim around my headlights, my grill, my steps, and my trailer hitch (only because i'm putting on a body lift soon). Other than sanding is there anything else i really need to do to prep for paint? What grit sand paper should I use?

I searched and coudn't really find anything, I saw that someone used 600 grit, but i think that was on plastic bed rails.

Thanks for any help in advance,

Cody

for some reason the people who frequent the c&d section are really picky about what gets posted in here

but for painting plastic 600 should do, then apply a product called bully dog adhesion promoter(can be found in arisol and cans at any paint supply store) then primer and paint

but if your using spray paint just sand it with 600 maybe even 1000 since the paint will be thin, and use krylon fusion...

o and other body would be a good section for paint questions, then once it is painted come over to here to ask how to get it shiny

Don't worry. I wasn't being a ****, I was just letting you know so that you could post it else where and get more answers. I'd follow AZMidgets instructions though. The Krylon Fusion paint is some pretty awesome stuff. I painted a set of plastics for a XR50 and they held up great !!

Don't kid yourself, that's the case on every single internet forum and this whole forum. I wasn't being mean. I was letting him know because he's not going to get that many answers.

If this place had more moderators, a lot of threads could be moved to the appropriate section. I can't believe how many non-engine related threads there are in the Engines section - people post there because it's the first forum on the page and they are too lazy to read down farther.

I agree, Krylon Fusion is great stuff. I've painted my M4-like paintball gun woodland camo using it. Holds up great even when crawling through the brush, or when diving behind a fallen tree.
