Porter is here now I need help !

Well I finally ordered my Porter Cable 7424 and it came with some extra goodies. I have never used a polisher before and I guess I am wondering where I start. I had the truck clayed and polished about a month or so ago by a local detailer so I guess I am wondering about just using it to polish and shine as there are not really any scratches or anything I need to remove.

I have some new bottles of the liquid Megs NTX 2.0, I assume I can use the polisher and this together ? Are there any other megs products I should be using before or after the NTX ?

The pads that came with the kit are as follows

Black Finishing Pad
Blue Final Finishing
White Polishing Pad
Orange Light Cutting

Here is a pic of what I received.

If you want to use it with the NXT, I'd probably try it with the blue pad. The NXT has enough polishing agents and fillers in it to where you can probably just wash it thoroughly and do it.

I like using Megs UQD after each wash job, it helps boost NXT's polymer protection.

Wow... kind of an open ended answer there, man. Do you want the abbreviated version response or the text book version? LOL!

Plug in. Set to 4. Put on backing plate. Put on pad. (all of these are optional in order)

Prime pad -- some like to spray with a mist of a QD, some like a water, some don't prime, I do.

Product on pad -- I typically will use an 'X' pattern on a pad to start then I go to more of a spin the pad and slowly drizzle some on the pad technique.

With a LSP w/ mild polishing action (like NXT), you probably aren't going to be working the product in a single spot very long simply because you're just applying a LSP - not polishing for defect removal.

Apply it very thin to the paint -- you'll learn that you have a LOT of control over application with the PC once you get the hang of it.

For starters, I'd go with more of a finishing pad than a polishing pad so that you can get a little bit more the 'hang' of it before going all out -- although, a polishing pad isn't a bad option either -- it's just that the finishing is a tad more safe -- just a tad.

Go slow. No need to hurry. Take your time and keep the cord off of the paint (typically, I'll toss mine over the shoulder).

Go slow... patience patience patience.

More later - I'm Mr. Mom right now.

Deffinitly listen to Rock. i Picked up my da about a month or two ago and did about 3 details already, i was very skeptical of using it. I took in as much information possible from everyone on the forums than tuck it to the truck. It was very sucessful i got 95% of my swirls out but scratches and wierd marring didnt come out.

Start slow and follow procedures from everyone especially the elders. Make sure you use the right products to go with your procedure.

As you know black is very hard to keep clean but there comes a point where you HAVE to be satisfied with your job. If i could i would cover my truck everynight but i cant.
