I'm looking to place an order with Poorboys but I could use some help. It's a small one consisting of:

PB Black Hole
PB Wheel Sealant
PB EX-P

However, I have a few questions regarding these. My usual order of detailing the truck is:

Gold Wash
Clay
Meg's Step 1 & 2
NXT 2.0

With these additional products, where do they fit into my routine (excluding the wheel sealant)? Is EX-P and Black Hole a one or another scenario after the NXT 2.0?

Also, any other products from Poorboy's you'd recommend?

 

Are you applying by hand or DA?

You can use both EX-P and Black Hole. EX-P is a sealant, Black Hole is a glaze, so apply Black Hole then EX-P. No need to follow EX-P with NXT, but you can top with a carnuba if you'd like.

 

At the moment everything is by hand....

As the EX-P is a sealant, should I apply the NXT 2.0 followed by the Black Hole and topped with the EX-P?

 

Wait 12 hours after applying the sealant to put on the NXT.

Why wait 12 hours after EX-P? Can be topped in as little as 45-60 min.

Right you can top ex-p in as little as an hour, I think he ment to wait 12 hours in between coats of nxt, or if you are going to top it with something else.

I don't know that you'd need NXT to top off the EX-P. EX-P is pretty protective already. I usually use Collinite 845 which looks nice and lasts a good while. You can also use something like the Natty's line of waxes, or something else for nice "pop."

Just took the time to actually read the whole thread - my apologies.

I would do this:

Wash
Clay
Megs 1 and 2
Black Hole
EX-P (wait an hour, longer is not necessary...)
Top with the LSP of your choice.

Now, LSP - if you want to use NXT, go for it. I just don't find the extra protection necessary as per my prior comment. EX-P does a fine job sealing everything up. Unless you live in an area where you think you need it, i.e. lots of sand, lots of water, lots of salt, etc. I use Collinite 845 because here in TX we get a lot of wind and it tends to kick up all the dust and pollen and move it across my paint faster than I'd like. If I didn't have Collinite, I would probably use NXT.

If I didn't worry about the wind so much, I would pick up some Natty's Red, if you can find it (great for dark colors.) There's also a blue (dark colors,) and the regular which is white, (light colors/metallics.)

Use the wheel sealant whenever you feel like doing the wheels - might as well do it while you're doing the rest of the truck.

Sorry, I was confused. I thought what I had been using was EX-P but it's EX. The guys at PB told me to wait 12 hours before applying anything over it.

 

I guess longer can't hurt but I don't think it'd make a huge difference..


I believe the only reason to wait is to allow the Carnauba to "cure." (Remember the EX has Carnauba in it, EX-P does not..)

 

What you have here is correct. But what some others are trying to say is that you may not need the NXT step at all. NXT is a synthetic sealant even though many use it as their LSP (Last Step Product). You would be topping a sealant with a sealant. Maybe a little overkill. Like others have mentioned, if you go that route, you will not need to wait more than an hour before topping the EX-P.
