Procedure for MF maintenance

As the topic suggests, what is your way of washing your MF towels, etc., without damaging the fibers?

I believe Thumper in another thread mentioned something about adding vinegar into the washer as well?

I always wash mine on a gentle cycle with mild detergent. Then I add one teaspoon full of white distilled vinegar for each MF item to break up any product remaining in the fabric.

No matter what process (by machine or by hand) you use to wash towels, the secret is to get ALL the soap out of the towels..

Use "half" the liquid detergent you think you need (and no fabric softeners).

Rinse them, rinse then some more, and rinse then again. Add the vinegar when you are certain that you have most of the soap out. The vinegar will remove the little remaining soap, and soften the towels.

I prefer to let my towels air dry... I get less static in them by air drying.

Good point Boss. I forgot to mention that I add the vinegar during the last rinse cycle.

Just so I get this right:

1) Wash with half amount of liquid detergent and no softner
2) Rinse a few times to get soap out
3) Rinse again with added vinegar, 1 teaspoon per towel
4) Rinse one last time?
5) Air dry

It's really a "play it by looks," kind of thing. Depending on your washing machine, and local water, you may only need to rinse once.

I typically use just a drop or two of detergent with my good towels, because they don't usually get "dirty," just build up product. With the bad ones, (wheels, trim, etc,) I use maybe 1/4 of the filling cup from the detergent bottle.

I let them wash all the way through. Then I return the washer to the rinse cycle, and dump in a bit of vinegar.

I wash on a warm/cold setting with a small amount of detergent. I use strictly Tide with no additives, absolutely no fabric softeners, etc. I usually let it rinse twice at least. During the tail end cycle of the last rinse I'll add a tbls of distilled white vinegar for each towel. After that I let my towels air dry after they've spun in the washer. If you wash a microfiber applicator, make sure before you set it out to dry to ring it out. Otherwise it's going to be sitting on your counter for a while drying.
