wax question
I'm gonna stir up the hornet's nest here.
You guys that are shrinking in horror at the suggestion that someone actually should let a terry towel touch their paint - do you redetail after every time you brush up against your finish with your clothes on? This is getting a bit OTT.

other people walk by and brush against it... Freaking girls and their rhinestone purses drive me up the wall when they walk by and dont even notice that they are ruining hours of hard work... Hence why I typically wait until the paint really needs it before I tackle it again-- otherwise I would be polishing abrasively every week or 2... ARGHHH!!!
On the briht side, when it does look not so good, I go take it off road (I know, 2wd, but still...) and dont have to worry about a leaf making sraight line marring...

I used to use Gold Class, but I have used the new Meguiar's Tech Wax the last couple of times I have waxed my pickup. It doesn't seem to last as long as the old time wax, but it sure looks good for a while.
As for my experience on wax...
My truck was delivered to the dealer lot in March of '07. It sat unsold (near a major 4-lane highway and on a gravel back lot) where lots of fallout and dust was present. I bought it on 10/8/07 and noticed the build date and crappy dealer cleaning so I caught the next nice weekend day to detail, clay bar, and apply a coat of NXT.
Made it through the winter with that and applied another coat of NXT which was nice but kind of gave the truck a "plastic wrapped" appearance. Last week I washed a applied a coat of pure carnauba (no cleaners) over the coat of NXT and it really popped. I then applied another coat of carnauba and it realy looks slick and good now. I will probably do that from now on several times a year. Strip off the old with dish detergent, clay, NXT for protection, and pure carnauba for "pop". Instant Detailer after washing in between.
While the "water beading" test is no sure sign, the next few coats after spring hit really did it alot of good. I only hand apply and remove wax after a thorough cleaning with only microfiber towels and applicator pads.
