I stand on my running boards and then hold on to my roof rack with one hand and wash with the other. Then as I get further toward the back (Expedition... big roof) I step up onto the tire. It's a little tricky getting down though because at 6'3, 280 with a bum knee, jumping down from the tire and landing wrong could really leave me in some pain.

One of my friends was washing his car, and he stood on the wet bumper...as he was about to get down, his foot got snagged on the car somehow and he fell... He ended up having 2 or 3 surgeries for it... Ouch. Be careful climbing (i know, I am guilty, too...) on the trucks!!!

I do this too. Along with using the tires and running boards for steps. Not safe but it works and I'm only 5'6".

I stand on my toolbox and lean forward. I always think my feet are going to give on it and I'll land face first into the roof.

I think this is the best method! You can reach the whole roof!

I bought a Boar's Hair brush from Tropi-Care and attached it to a 5' broom stick that's threaded on the end. It has made the washing part much easier. I can stand in the bed of my SCrew and reach the top of the windshield. As far as polishing, waxing, etc. I just open the doors like some other of the guys suggested.
