Microfiber wash mitt

Anybody here using a microfiber wash mitt?

I need to buy a new wash mitt and was looking for something good.

Torn between the Microfiber, Sheepswool and well anything else that may be out there that I dont know about...

Are you talking about the Meguiars Microfiber Wash Mitt than I do use them. It's all I use. I order about 10 of them at time from www.autodetailingsolutions.com since it's such a good deal. I think it's ~$11 or $12 for 3 of them.

I've tried the MF mitt from Meg's and, uhh... I didn't care much for it.

My personal preference is the SM Arnold mitt that ADS is now carrying. I've been using that particular mitt for several years now. I look for several things in a mitt but, the first that I look for is enough nap on the mit to capture 'stuff' from the paint and allow it to become entrained in the mitt. The point of that is to keep the gunk in the mitt and not dragging across your paint during the wash (which is where most swirls and straight lines are introduced, IMO). By it becoming entrained, I can then flush it out by using my 2 or 3 bucket system for the wash.

A second thing that I look for is for the mitt to hold copious amounts of shampoo/water solution. This obviously will add a higher level of lubrication and allow the mitt to easily glide across the paint while doing the work that is necessary. No mitt should require you to really have to press down on the paint to achieve a clean surface under normal situations.

That said, I'd HIGHLY recommend the SM Arnold 85-340 mitt over both MF and 100% cotton chenille.

Brad do you mind giving me a link to the exact mitt you're talking about? I looked it up online but couldn't find it on ADS's website.

Heh. This was one of the few things I was easily able to find on the ADS website.

I'm with RP... I prefer high quality sheepskin mitts. I have several "extra plush" mitts from ExcelDetail that are my favorites... tough to get the extra plush ones though.

I tried one of the "knobby" MF mitts from AutoZone, and while it was OK, it still didn't glide over the paint surface like the sheepskin mitt. It also holds onto the dirt particles too long for my liking. Even the instructions advice to check to mitt for dirt frequently and rinse thoroughly... not that I didn't have that figured out before-hand.

Thanks, I found that too but didn't know which mitt he was talking about. I'm assuming the Lambs Wool Wash Mitt, right? How long do they typically last? A little bit more than what I'd be spending with the Meguiars Microfibers but if they are that much better I'm willing to spend it.

As the my post mentioned, it's part # 85-340 ... it's listed right next to the item description -- bottom of that page.

That's a subjective question...

The simple answer is -- that'll depend on how frequently you're using them on what type of vehicle grunge, etc...

The slightly more complex answer is that I get probably 40 washes out of one on an average grunge vehicle. I have a system that demotes one to 'below the two-tone' line and gets a new one to the other body panels (hoods, roofs, toppers, etc).

That said, I've probably had more and I know I've had less number of washes out of one. It's subjective and up to the user to determine if their mitt is due for replacement/demotion.

They get stiff once dried but come back to life once you soak them for a minute or three before you're next wash.

I really find myself tossing the Meguiars Microfibers rather quickly to avoid causing any swirls or scratches. So I'm thinking that even though the SMs are a little bit more money, it'd probably work out to the same. The vehicles that they'd be used on aren't anything but normal "dirty", mostly dusty.

I really think you'd like them over the MF ones...

Rick only recently started carrying them... I was getting them from waxstation.com.
