I am going to guess that you want to keep the $ expenditures to a minimum. As such, here is what I will let you in on:

**Color-X is a GREAT way to help hide those spiderweb-looking scratches and add wax in one step.

**Any chrome from the factory is clearcoated-- thus you should treat it like paint.

**If you arent opposed to getting a metal polish, go get Meguiars NXT All Metal Polysh (yes, its spelled that way). It is great for what you are looking for.

**Dont forget the tire shine, BUT WAIT!!! Get a spray, because you should use it in your wheel wells, too. Believe it or not, it makes a HUGE difference. Try it.

**Fill up your tank with gas. I know, it sounds dumb, but that would be SO embarassing!

Good luck! BTW-- take pics! (well, I originally meant of the truck, before and after...but then I thought: "Why not take pics of the date, too?" just kidding, man. But really, you should take truck befores/afters)

Honestly, your date isn't going to notice. Been there, done that. Spend more time on the interior than you do on the exterior.

BUT, it's very noble what you're doing (I did it too.)

Make sure the windows are squeeky clean - they seem to like that. Get some nice smelling air freshner (clean linen is a good choice.) Make sure the handles in and out aren't greasy or anything of that nature. Make sure the door sills are clean so her dress doesn't get dirty. Stock some beverages in the back seat. Girls get thirsty when they're nervous. Make sure all your black trim doesn't look grey by using some sort of tire shine. Hyperdressing works great for this, but I don't think you have any or can get some locally. Any tire shine will work, just make sure you "buff" it after it dries so it doesn't run down the sides of your truck. Dress the wheel wells - you'll be the only one at prom with that much dedication - again, use tire shine.

Good luck man! It'll be a fun night, just don't let high school drama ruin anything.

Be a Gentleman.

Yes, this may decrease your chances of scoring. But, you will thank yourself (and so will she) in 5 years or so.

Don't ruin her dress. You have no idea how important this is. As stated, clean the sills, don't overdress the door handles (she shouldn't have to touch them anyway. Open and close the door for her. Don't leave yourself with greasy crap on you own hands that will ruin her dress)

Dance with her.

Yes, you must dance with her. Far more important than the cleanliness of your vehicle. Practice with your Mom... if you must. This could be THE most important aspect of the date.

After Prom, if she indicates she wants to go home, take her home. Shake her father's hand and thank him for allowing you to take out his daughter.

Do NOT forget to acknowledge the father. He owns guns. He is willing to use them.

Apply Hyper-Dressing to the wheel wells, and I am done with this thread.

(unless I get worked up again)

Wash your truck, HD the wells, be a Gentleman (don't get shot), have a great prom

Thanks for lightening that mood there, gators.

To the OP...

As gators mentioned, it can be accomplished in a relatively simple process. While you may not get perfection, you can certainly raise the bar on your current status - and I say that not knowing the paints' current condition.

Good luck... be safe... all that jazz.

Glad to hear that it went well and that you're happy with it!

As for the wheels... we'll need a bit more information. What kind of wheels are we talking? Do you have additional pictures of the wheels and the conditions that you're facing?

If they are anything except uncoated aluminum/"mag" wheels. Meguiars All Wheel Cleaner does a good job on brake dust. I spray it on and let it sit for a couple minutes, then go at it with a grunge wash mitt and regular car wash soap.

I've used it on clearcoated wheels, chrome wheels, and factory fake whatever they are wheels.
