The rolled tip on my Magnaflow gets constant attention to keep it shiny...

This involves an occasional clay job and frequent polishing with Heavy Metal Polish or NXT Metal Polysh.

I don't think that there's a golden rule other than to do it as frequently as you can so that the gunk doesn't build up, bake on, and become a total PITA to remove.

I personally like to use the mothers all metal polish and apply a thin coat then go and drive for 10 to 15 min to get it nice and hot. I like it to be baked on, then I use a little elbow grease and a microfiber to finish it out. I have had sucess with it. Does not make it the best way by any means, its just works for me.

Did that and spent 3 hours on the tips with all kinds of cleaners and clay to get mine clean a few months ago. Was one spot that I used to neglect. Now they get clay (ocationaly), megs polish, and a coat of #16 (for durability)

Putting 16 on it at the end of the process won't do much for it...

For that case, very few LSPs will really yield much protection in that area due to the heat that is generated.

My point, conserve your 16.

I use Meg's Mag and Aluminum Polish. It works great and is very easy to use.

Like the others said, the only thing to do is polish as often as possible. I'd say once every other wash or so would be plenty. Although, I don't have tips anymore so my opinion doesn't really matter.

Hmm, I just wash mine and I've never had a problem. I don't know if it's because I don't have to deal with much salt here and frequent washing but I've never really had a problem. On the truck if they'd get really bad, I'd use a dedicated Honeycomb Bug Sponge on them.

I dont know how durable it is to heat, but collinite 845 is pretty durable, can it withstand that kind of heat?

I've used it on a set of wheels with good results. Normally a carnuba won't stand up to heat like a synthetic wax but I think Collinite 845 might be an exception to that. I mean think about it, it was designed as a insulator wax for power lines. It has to be able to withstand major heat. I could be wrong but it did hold up pretty good on a set of wheels.

Blehhh....

I must have driven over a newly paved road or something because there is black spots baked onto my tips that I cannot get off.

Whats the strongest cleaner I can use without ruining the finish?

My stainless steel tips never really have any problem... they have a little overspray from a bodyshop when i had to get a scratch fixed. Other than that i wash them as i do the rest of the truck and hit them with some QD. Occasionally i use Eagle 1's metal polish... I also use that metal polish on my wheels along with NXT 2.0.. but never put he NXT on the pipes, figured they get too hot.
