2001 grill oxidation

The grill on my 2001 SC 4x4 has become very badly oxidized. Has anyone here found a way to get these looking new again?

Thanks.

Not sure what kind of grille you have but I'm assuming it is either the diamond style or honeycomb style that comes from the factory as a medium grayish color? I have the honeycomb one in my 03 XLT and it started looking crappy too. I couldn't find an aftermarket replacement that I just loved and money is also an issue. I just took mine out, washed it good, scuffed it with a scuff pad, and painted it. I think it looks great. The stuff I used is intended as a bumper coat and is actually more of a dye than a paint. I got it from a local auto paint supply store at the recommendation of my father-in-law who is a body man. If you are interested let me know and I will find out what the stuff is called and you can check for it in your area. Also, if you search this site there is a very detailed post on how to remove the grille. It's not hard if you know how.

Yep, mine is the dark grey honeycomb style also. I never had much luck painting plastic parts so I didn't concider it. That stuff you're talking about sounds pretty cool. I'd like to get the name of it if you don't mind.

Thanks.

It's called Bumper Coater and it is made by a company called SEM. I used the medium titanium metallic and it is actually pretty darn close to the color of my Arizona Beige truck...maybe a little more gray. If I had it to do over I would probably use Dark Titanium Metallic but hopefully you will be able to find it in a store near you so that you can look for yourself and pick out the color you want. I haven't looked but I don't know if you will find it at your nearby auto parts store. I got it from a paint and body product store for about $9 a can. I used five or six light coats about 15 minutes apart and one can will be plenty. Mine has only been done about two months but I am very pleased so far. Here's the website.....hope this helps.

Thanks star. Apparently they carry the stuff at Sherwin-Williams of all places. I’ll post before and after pics when I’m done with it.

Thanks again!
