Tailpipe
Tailpipe
Steel wool, SOS pad?
I'm standing here in the middle of winter with a brand new DA but the temp is too low to do anything with it. Not to mention that work has me covered up deeply and I don't have time to wash the truck.
But, I'm making plans for a good late February/early March detail and my tailpipe is giving me concerns.
My tailpipe has a bunch of crud on it that doesn't "easily" wash off. Meaning, I took a towel with soap and water to it, and the crud remained.
What is the best way to get the pipe cleaned up?

RP just posted a great note on this subject for chrome tailpipe.
The NXT Metal Polysh is really a good product. I have a Maggie 16612 on my truck and it does a FANTASTIC job at removing the 'gunk' that is built up.
Keep in mind that if you have lots of baked on stuff (tar, etc), you may end up needing to use a light solvent like Body Solvent or similar to really cut the gunk off and then finish with a clay job on the tip.
Another fantastic metal polish is Heavy Metal Polish (thanks Boss!). I've been using this stuff for a while now and really like the 'medium wadding' (green). It's good stuff! RP

Heavy Metal Polish is about the best stuff on the market, IMO.
Yes, are you serious? Do you realize you're posting in the Care & Detailing section? All of us who are regular posters, as well as others, to this section or more than **** about keeping our vehicles looking nothing less than perfect.

I just get a little bit of sandy or gritty mud from my driveway while I'm washing my truck and rub it on my pipes(chrome), then wash them off. It will shine them up really good and take the little rust dots off of it as well. It didn't scratch them at all. I was skeptical at first, but a guy that detailed cars told me to try it and I did and it worked.

Meguiar's Hot Rims Polish is very good as well. It can be used on just about everything.
