Rust!!? Help!

Goodness gracious, I don't know how it happened.

I found a rust spot today on the roof on my F-150. Can you believe that? It's pretty deep too- obviously into the metal. (I'm working on getting a picture up.) The paint was oxidized a bit around it, so I'm assuming it was probably some bird crap that I probably cleaned off but didn't get all of the residue. It is in an akward spot.

Either way, what is the best way to handle this issue in the interim period. I do not have the resources to take it to a body shop for new paint at the moment. (Hopefully soon.)

Rust on an 05!? that is odd. Any posiblities of it being vandalisim? Not sure what you can do other than get it sprayed.

Guess you could hit it with some of that rust stopping paint till you can afford to spray it. But if I were you I'd get a better oppinion than mine before doing that.

go and buy some buffer compound. Then was a rag and swirl it around and alot of it will come off. If it goes into the metal you will have to grind it out to stop it from spreading

That will do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to stop the rust. Bigbad, the only way to effectively stop the rust now is to sand and repaint. Since its an 05, you might get some help from the dealer, although I think their rust warranty is only if it is through the body.

are you kidding me? you take all the surface rust off with the buffer compound and then you will be able see the little pin hole spot where the rust has made its way through the paint and then you just sand or grind that little bit down.
