Towel Care

I've read and read but can't seem to find any information on this.

I wanna take care of my MF towels. It seems all the ones I've gotten in the past don't last too long.

I normally wash in the washer without soap and then throw them in the dryer (without dryer sheets.)

Should I be doing something more? The new ones I got today, should I "prep" them before use? What about wash mitts?

I've seen the MF restorer detergent, but does that stuff really make a difference? It's only 10 bucks, but I'd hate to do more damage than good.

Thanks for the help.

I bought a new wash mitt and put it in my closet so they wont use it and get dirt in it.

its ok to use regular detergent as long as it doesn't have fabric softener in it.

I use Micro-Restore on every wash mixed with a half dose of detergent.

Dry, don't use high heat...

Thanks JP. Just making sure I don't ruin my new towels.

Patman - I have 3 younger step brothers who don't know how to not touch things. I keep my stuff locked away. There's also 3 cats and a dog here who like to eat pretty things. I keep close guard on all my good stuff.

The Micro Restore products can be a little harsh on towels if used frequently, or used incorrectly.

Tide Free works great for me with a vinegar rinse. Occasionally, I will clean them with Micro Restore, but not often.

The secret to maintaining your towels is getting them clean WITHOUT using a lot of detergent, and making sure that all the detergent is rinsed out. Rinse them two or three times if necessary.

The vinegar rinse trick has been huge for me... it's kind of a pain in the butt to remember to do it but, when your water is as crappy as mine is (it's literally crunchy with dissolved calcium -- very hard!), it's worth it to conserve your expensive MF!

What kind of vinegar? .. and how much?

I've just been using Tide with nothing else, but the towels some time feel a little weird after a wash.

White Vinegar -- no stealing the stuff from Long John Silvers!

One TABLESPOON per towel during the rinse (at the tail end) of the cycle. I go through a lot of vinegar but, it's cheap at Costco in bulk.
