Meguiars Gold Class over Mothers Synwax??
Meguiars Gold Class over Mothers Synwax??
When I first joined here I read that as far as readily available waxes (at Walmart, Autozone, Pep Boys, etc) go, a lot of people like Mothers Synwax for lighter colors and Meguiars NXT Tech wax for darker colors. My truck is Arizona Beige so I went with the Synwax and am pleased with it. Since then, I have read that properly following a synthetic wax with a quality carnauba makes great results. I have been thinking of following my next Synwax application with a coat of Meguiars Gold Class. Will this really make a difference? Is the Gold Class a good carnauba wax?
Thanks

Gold Class is a decent carnauba-based wax that really adds depth and clarity but, lacks on the durability side.
In short, if you're looking to add looks to your ride, it's not a bad choice. If you're strictly doing it for added protection, it may fall short of your expectations.
My suggestion, do two coats of the Synwax (a very good product IMO) and then a single coat of Gold Class on HALF of your hood. If you love it, complete the vehicle... if you don't, just complete the hood and be done with it.

I always use two coats of a synthetic wax aka NXT with a coat of a carnuba aka Gold Class or #26 ontop. I'm not so sure it's going to matter so much on a light color vehicle like that but it makes a HUGE difference on Black. I second RP's advice and use your hood to test, that way you don't waste your time applying the Gold Class if you don't like it.
Both Synwax and GC have light cleaning ability. So, you are probably going to remove some of the previous coat with either one. I would suggest any of the following as a topper...
Mother's California Gold Carnauba
Meguiar's #26
Reflections Top Coat
Reflections Top Coat would be my choice that light color. Plus, it's a breeze to apply and remove.
As RP suggested, do a spot coat to see if you like it. Of course, if you don't, you've got to find something else to use it on.

I just used NXT 2.0 on my Arizona Beige '03, and it looks so good I left it be, no wax on top. I plan on using UQD on it after each wash and rewaxing as necessary with NXT 2.0. I'm a tired old fart so I'm looking for the easiest way out without simply neglecting things. NXT 2.0 works on and off very easily.
