Painted driveshaft... quick question...

A week or so ago I painted my drive shaft with Krylon Rust Tough Semi Gloss Black Paint...

I started by getting under the truck and wiping all the driveshafts with "OOps brand remover" and letting it dry... I then sprayed the driveshaft with a couple thin coats of the paint...

a full 24 hours went by and I took a drive up north... when I came back and got under the truck to install my exhaust... most of the paint on the driveshaft is gone and the paint that isnt you can just wipe it off with your finger...

So what is the CORRECT STEPS and PRODUCTS to use for this job??

Thanks!

Well, I'd pick up some POR15 to paint the driveshaft first off. If you're concerned with getting it perfect, just hit it with some sand paper real quick, it shouldn't be too hard with a creeper. Spend about 10 minutes doing that and than just wipe it down. Spray or brush the POR15 on and sit back!

PS: There's plenty of ways to go about doing this so I'm sure someone else will come along and tell me that I'm wrong. It's whatever works for you.

Hmmm... I used Rust Oleum Semi-Gloss black on the rest of my undercarriage with no problems... Never tried it on the driveshaft, though.

I guess you could use an adhesion promoter (ie: Primer) first, then shoot it up.

POR-15 is DEFINATELY the best stuff to get, however, it is a *bit* pricey... Which is why I dont have any.

Por-15 will be too heavy of a product to use on the driveshaft dontcha think??

I am afraid it will get out of balance if I painted it with that!

If its not I will just get a gallon and do the entire undercarriage!

would a gallon be enough for the entire under carriage of my F350 (axles, underbody, driveshaft, and all of that)

I guess you'd run into problems if you started applying it uneven but if it's all an even coat, I wouldn't think you'd run into any problems.

I still don't know why you had problems with just regular Krylon. Since POR15 is pretty expensive why not just try to sand and respray with Krylon. Let it dry for a few days if you can.

There is a good reason why I never painted my d-shaft. Not that I am a chicken...well, maybe I am...but my d-shaft doesnt wobble!

So is that a yes or a no to Por-15 on the driveshaft??...

And another question about Por-15 can I paint it directly over the stock under coating so the entire under body looks the same??

Depends on your build. Some 04's had many TSB's for bad drive shafts....

Trust me, I know. I went through two driveshafts to try to get rid of the infamous vibration. The POR15 never made a difference though. Plus the kid has a F350 anyways.

Start at one end with electrical tape, winding it up the driveshaft.Paint it a few coats then remove the tape. Now you have a barber pole style painted driveshaft!

Ohio, there's your problem
The temp probably never got warm enough for the paint to really dry.
